Ethics and confidentiality
When providing psychological consultations, I adhere to the Lithuanian Psychological Association (LPA) "Code of Professional Ethics for Psychologists", which is based on international principles of professional ethics for psychologists and defines the main principles of professional responsibility, confidentiality and client well-being.
A very important part of counseling, which helps create a safe space for open and honest conversation is confidentiality. According to paragraph 1.2. of the LPA Code of Professional Ethics for Psychologists, "A psychologist shall maintain professional secrecy and shall ensure that information received from the client and interested parties remains confidential." A psychologist may disclose confidential information only in cases where there is a clear serious threat to the health or life of the client or other persons.
According to paragraph 2.3 of the Code of Ethics, a psychologist constantly strives for professional development. Therefore, in order to ensure the quality of the services provided and professional growth, I discuss my work with another specialist in supervisions. In such cases, consultation situations may be discussed, but all information is provided without disclosing the client's identity and in accordance with the principles of confidentiality.
